I prefer Basic and why I wrote my book "Programming PIC Microcontrollers with PicBasic". I have had many people contact me that had no programming skills, read my book, and are now building some amazing projects. I've had others say they've programmed in assembly but prefer the easy development with Basic. There are loads of Basic examples on the web thanks to the Basic Stamp, Atom, PicBasic, PicBasic Pro, MBasic Pro, all of which use the same semi-standard command format. Everybody has their own choice for programming PICs though.
