I am interested in trying to connect a CAN-enabled PIC processor to an automotive OBD-2 diagnostic port. Depending on the make/model/manufacturer, there are one and two-wire CAN busses, as well as different bit comm rates. I am aware of the SAE and ISO communication protocols for CAN communiction via OBD-2. Does anyone know of any on-line or printed references (e.g. books, articles), example circuits, demo code for this purpose, especially using a CAN-based PIC processor? I am also aware that you can buy relatively low-cost CAN-to-OBD-2 diagnostic tools. I want to be able to roll my own...not buy something off the shelf. Thanks in advance for any pointers!
