I tried that with a 555 oscillator running at 38KHz, going into an AND
gate to which the other input was connected to my 16f84. I looked up the
Philips RC-5 protocol and got it all working perfectly. I've since reduced
the carrier wave generation to a few lines of code so I have a 1-chip
remote
control solution.

I found that the carrier wave had a 1/3 duty cycle, but if you want to
cheat I can send you my code :)
