I decided several months back to switch to the 18F series for all of my work, both professional and hobby. I've been using the 18F252 and 18F452, and have a few 18F1320 projects in mind for when the chips arrive from Digi-Key next week. At work, the products I design are all low-volume, specialized items in which engineering costs dominate, and I'm finding the 18F chips save me a lot of time; they really are MUCH easier to use, in my opinion. And at home, I find they're simply more fun (and a lot less frustrating) to use than the 16's.
