My point was that you can do most of what you need (admittedly less efficiently) with printf statements. That would allow him to use other PICs without an ICD.' Also, I normally do C# and Java development during my day job. The ability to do breakpoints/watches/stepping etc is much more important in those languages than on a PIC because the programs are much more complex.
