Update to MPLAB 6.3. It worked fine in 5.x so I would guess the part was not supported in 6.2 due to the rollout process used in the update to 6.x. You can also use the latest 5.x I think 5.7 that is on the web site for programming if needed. The Picstart Plus has supported the 505 for a long time now.
