I don't know about this IC, but I have used the Motorola IC in the past. The challenge is not the chip, but the software to communicate with it. Perhaps, you might review the status pins and the interface software. I have found that the address or chip select levels, or similar simple things that were overlooked or forgotten, were the problem. BTW, what are you using GPIB to communicate with? Are you connecting it to a PIC? If so, which PIC?
