I was planning to use a USB Flashkey for an immediate application. Unfortunately we've run out of development time, so fell back to MMC, which offers USB capability indirectly (i.e MMC readers plugging into USB). But I have an even MORE pressing application for the Flashkey, and will resume this search when I can. The reason is that there are plans for Flashkeys as large as 2GB! Its the ultimate solution to this problem. I'd planned to use a PIC18FXXX to interface to a SL811HS Cypress, which has a simple uP interface (3 control lines and an 8-bit bus). This would become the workhorse core for these applications. But my plan (which is viable, I just have to finish the present job) was to skip most of the USB interface stuff, and jump straight into the DOS FAT16 structure within the memory map of the Mass Memory Device. In other words, rather than built a heavy control layer above the USB Host Chip level, just talk to the Flashkey as if it were a simple mass storage device. THEN determine, through experiment, where the data is placed, where the FAT table is etc etc. Test by experiment, using several Flashkeys and install files with Windoze then read them through the PIC, etc. It'll be Sept 30 before I can back to it now, tho.. --Bob --Bob At 12:17 PM 7/21/2003 -0400, you wrote: > A couple of times in the past I've had to reverse engineer the > protocol some serial devices use by hooking another computer with two > serial ports in line to the device in question.
