I have done so a few times when I bought a new PC. The new HD is a few
times the size of the old one, so I inster the old HD in the new PC (as
second disk) and copy it verbatim to C:\old-hd or something like that.
Of course the old HD already contained a \old-hd directory, so I can
actually look a few PC generations back.
