Maybe not. Measure millivolts direct with a Multimeter in the millivolts range. Check boiling water & ice water, compare to thermocouple tables. I would expect most Thermocouples to be chromel-Alumel due to corrosion resistance. There are probably tables on the net. If you don't find them, email I am sure I have paper in old books... BTW, I never verified it, but I bet the safety thermocouples on gas pilot lights would work, but there mass might make them slow.
