The FT8U232AM has two types of driver, one is a VCP (virtual comm port) and the other is accessed through a dll. The specific user information, such as the device name, is held on the eeprom. I have never used them without the eeprom, but it does say it's optional. It might be worth a call to support for this, but before you do.... Try these: 1. You can't install both sets of drivers on one machine, so check for this first. 2. Have you read the application note AN232-03? This is a step by step installation for the drivers under W98. It does ask that the install is on a fresh machine though, so you will have to read appendix A for the uninstall docs. I couldn't find the app note on their site, but you can download it at http://www.dlpdesign.com/usb-prev/images/AN232-03.PDF 3. It could be a problem with W98. Try deleting the unknown device in the HW device manager. 4. Either give FTDI a call (they are quite busy) or your local distributor. Here in the UK it's Alpha Micro Systems in the UK and they give good support too. Hope this helps, Brian. > Hi, > > I'm trying to use the FT8U232AM in a new project but can't install >the drivers for it.
