>People that build commercial sized inverters, welding equipment, plasma >cutters...etc. Might have a simulation package. I was just suggesting a >semi real world test jig for 3 phase applications. If I don't find one soon, I may just try to put one together myself. >In the past I have worked with some very large Inverters or UPS units >(200 KW) these used triacs for switching. Something some how caused a >phase inversion and a triac (500 Amp variety) switched out of >phase....it was a mess to say the least, and I lost part of my data >center for a while... I had someone wiring a similarly sized proto over the phone. We took lunch breaks and returned to the phone an hour later. The poor fellow was a bit sullen & withdrawn when he told me that he had started again without waiting for my direction. In his infinite wisdom he thought that he might swap some wires around, thinking "it might work better like this" Needless to say, the cost of the custom SCR packs went up in smoke ($thousands) as did some distribution hardware that supplies the entire street. Too bad he also omitted the fuses. I saved the control board as a memento. And to think - this guy was about to be let go last week and I went to bat for him - successfully.....recounting this story has me wondering if I made a mistake....
