Hi Samo, I am driving the stepper coils with RB1, RB2, RB3 and RB4 output signals ( high ) to a 4.7K ohm resistor to the base of 2N3904 transistor for each coil. The Emmiter is connected to ground and the collector is connected to each coil terminal, the two common wires are connected to a +5V source.
