Oh, they still work, but with the newer versions of windows, you need to either go through a driver layer, or muck around with permissions. Not only that, but there are machines coming out that don't even have parallel ports anymore. They're all USB or something like that. I'm a retro kind of guy, and I sorely miss the days when you could actually fully understand every piece of hardware and software. The IBM XT service manual even came with source code for the BIOS.
