There appears to be a european standard (or at least common useage) for various schematic symbols that I don't like. I prefer symbols that remind you as much as possible of the electrical function of the part. For example, I think the zigzag line for a resistor is more intuitive than a rectangle. There are also different conventions for logic elements that I feel do less to illuminate what the circuit is doing than the old fashioned ones. Some of these are also IEEE standards from around 1980.
