I had an old (kitchen) mixer that was flakey.  Having plugged it in
and examine it carefully to see what was salvagable, if anything, I
decided that the line cord was about it...  So I pulled the plug from
the wall and sliced through the cord with a big kitchen knife.  BAM!
Big sparks.  Quarter-inch pit in the kitchen knife.  The cord I had
pulled from the wall was NOT the cord of the mixed :-(
