When customer engineering was short on space (or money?) and having to work with multiple operating systems here, they just put their C drive in one of those "removable bay" devices, and used a separate drive for each OS. this also solved the (potential) problem of having W98 programs in the same place that W95 was looking for stuff, and so on. A couple Gig worth of HD is all you need for W95 (if all you want to do is play a game or two), and is approaching the "find in trash" catagory...
