Once i cut the trace and re-wired to AN4, the problem went away. So you did
help. If you hadn't suggested latchup, i wouldn't have removed/insterted the
emulator. That led me to think of cutting the trace....

I'll post RF Solutions answer for completeness of this thread once I get it.
Something is very wrong, with both emulators showing the same behavior.
