Two problems though... 1) the pot's mounted on a pcb and can only be oriented the way it is - it's a tight fit. 2) (as someone else mentioned) these headphones aren't actually THAT old... 2 years or so, and they do seem to have a Log taper on them. This wouldn't normally be a problem except that I always keep 'em way down so nobody can hear the weird stuff I listen to :O).
