Here in Blighty (even in the wild wastelands of the North of Scotland!), we
tend not to keep large tanks of combustible liquid in our basements, they
are usually outside (We get our kicks from long exposed copper pipes
snaking through the house to the boiler :-) )

Actually, it's surprising how litle power is needed, with my ultrasonic
version the 'click' is barely audible, but range is several metres.  (The
only pair of ears nearby are my dog's, and he doesn't even notice.  Then
again, he doesn't notice much unless it smells of rabbits :-) )
