>I suspect that these laws are a reaction to the overblown fear of >terrorism. >I think these laws are ridiculous, but given an article that I read >recently in the paper, it seems that my fellow countrymen are even less >well informed than I thought (according to a poll, 1/3 of USA citizens >believe that weapons-of-mass-destruction* have already been found in Iraq >and 1/2 of citizens believe that one or more of the 9-11 hijackers were >Iraqi). An interesting side note- about a month and a hlaf after the conflict started, I heard an NPR report that a number of rockets loaded with VX and ready to fire HAD BEEN FOUND in Iraq. I never heard an "Oops" or anything like it, so I can forgive some of the people who think they have been found already, since NPR usually tends to be trustworthy and is certainly no friend of the Bush hegemony. >* Of course I believe that weapons of mass destruction will be found, even >if somebody has to put them there first. When this happens I *really* hope >that it can be traced back to the highest levels of government so that the >people responsible for the Iraqi war will be charged with war crimes. I hope this doesn't start a flame war. Those never really result in anything, except irritating those of us who are too centered to spin out of control at the least little things that contradict the view of the world which we have constructed for ourselves.
