Thankz Anand and everybody. There doesn't seem to be any checksum code - the following bursts, when you hold the key down, are all the same as the first one. I think you would need to give it at least two repetitions to validate. This one's a rather low end VCR. I'll go check the PIC archives 4 some code ideas.
