No, doing so you'll not catch the title of "Wold Best Wheel Re-inventor". Assemble 38KHz receiver in discrete parts. "Muck around with serial comm" in assembler on PC side, home-brew PCB without Eagle or anything and perhaps you'll have some chances to win the silver title.
