Don't know. I'v just seen the specs in teh data sheets. My *guess* would be that IrDA is capable of *much* higher speeds then a regular "remote". And that's why there are limitations on the range. And, by using IrDA "modules", you can not just "add" any LED's to the module, it's all ready built and integrated in a common package. At least the ones I have seen. Jan-Erik.
