One source for the TSOPxxx modules are actualy our

I'm on a project where I thought about using these, but
for other reasons (had to buy other stuff) went with
a similar module from Farnell (order code 414-2858) :

called HIM702HM.

Just got them the other day, so I can't tell you
much about them...

I have not seen any of these in DIP packages.
You probably would like it to stand out a bit
from the PCB anyway.
