You are right, most PPCs do have a serial port, but I found they aren't advertised that well that they do (the newer iPAQ 1910 does not have one), even in detailed specs. I am planning on writing my app in eVB ... if you have any code snippets for talking to the serial port that you could share, I'de appreciate it. I'm sure it's fairly simple API calls though. Thanks. -----Original Message----- From: pic microcontroller discussion list [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU]On Behalf Of Hugo Harming Sent: Friday, June 06, 2003 5:41 AM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: Re: [OT]: Interfacing w/ PIC via I2C with Palm/Pocket PC My findings are the opposite, all the PPC's I've had a look at have at least one serial port. I think all of them has the ability to sync to a PC via a serial cable, but most ship with a USB cable nowadays. I've got a Fujitsu-Siemens Loox that came with a USB cable, later purchased a serial one for this reason. It is possible to add extra wiring to the PDA connector on the USB cable for serial port access, but I think that would look kind of messy. Connection to a serial device was simple (via an eVB prog). A null modem adapter is required. Not sure about Palm's abilities though. For the serial to I2C you could use a small PIC for the conversion, as suggested by a previous poster. I have not tried this so I don't have any details on it, but it should be doable. What do you have in mind for the external serial <-> I2C conversion? -----Original Message----- From: pic microcontroller discussion list [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU]On Behalf Of Hugo Harming Sent: Thursday, June 05, 2003 7:31 AM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: Re: [OT]: Interfacing w/ PIC via I2C with Palm/Pocket PC -----Original Message----- From: dflagg@EARTHLINK.NET [mailto:dflagg@EARTHLINK.NET] Sent: Thursday, June 05, 2003 12:59 AM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: [OT]: Interfacing w/ PIC via I2C with Palm/Pocket PC I have an application where I would like to interface to a PIC via I2C using either a Palm Pilot or Pocket PC. Does anyone know of a Compact Flash or SD card -> I2C adapter? Any information regarding this type of project or general PDA/PIC interfacing would be appreciated. -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline?
