serial connections that traverse a tcp/ip network using the telnet protocol
(ie using "terminal servers" as a sort of data switch) traditionally have
"issues" with CR/LF due to the telnet spec's arcane definitions of "End of
Line" compared to CR, LF, and CRLF.  I don't know of any products that don't
permit a configuration that avoids the problem, but that doesn't seem to
stop the problem from occuring all to frequently.
