No, it just flashes an "error" LED and goes south until power cycled. It has no display for error codes or any such stuff. As to why I think the fault is related to one axis, this is a one of the "desk top flat bed" type plotters that move the pen in the X direction, and paper in the Y direction, using separate motors with minimal mechanical linkage. The X motor does most of the work, and seems to be the one that is moving at the time the error occurs. You could be correct in it being random and/or intermittent, but from a cold turn on it will work for the longest before failing.
