If you just need 24 connections this one time, then you only need the
latter.  I keep both around so I can make a stack of any number of
connections, whether a multiple of 3 or not.  This might mean as many as
two of the 2x blocks in the stack, the rest being the cheaper per
connection 3x blocks.
