Have you tried my Universal LCD Control Library? It's on the PIClist website
(<http://www.piclist.com/>) under "Code Library", "I/O", "PIC Specific",
"LCD".
The ULCD library can run a HD44780 or compatible display in either 4-bit or
serial (74HC164) mode.
