I'll just chip in a recommendation for gvim-easy, it's based on the unix vi editor, but has been friendlified enough to make it usable by non-hackers too! It's an incredibly powerful editor, but you can just use it as a plain editor with syntax highlighting until you want to delve into it's advanced features. I use it whenever I can for C, things like Ctrl-] to jump to the definition of the variable or function (even if it is another file!) under the cursor, Ctrl-T to return aren't very easy to remember but save a LOT of time. And it's charityware (donation to charity if you find it useful), open source, download from http://www.vim.org/download.php#pc , and pick gvim61.exe, the self-extracting installer. It installs two options, pick gvim-easy until you get time to find out how the commands work, and just use the commands in the menus. It has syntax highlighting for PIC assembler, C, html and _alot_ of others (including a fair number I've never even heard of!) [If this were a Unix users mailing list, someone else would suggest emacs, then there would be an extensive but inconclusive battle to decide which was 'best', but I trust the piclist will be more civilised :-) ] Nigel -- Nigel Orr, Design Engineer nigel@axoninstruments.co.uk Axon Instruments Ltd., Wardes Road,Inverurie,Aberdeenshire,UK,AB51 3TT Tel:+44 1467 622332 Fax:+44 1467 625235 http://www.axoninstruments.co.uk -- http://www.piclist.com hint: PICList Posts must start with ONE topic: [PIC]:,[SX]:,[AVR]: ->uP ONLY!
