How about looking for a sequence of 3 bytes.  If you press the F1 key it
sends 1B 4F 50, the F2 key sends 1B 4F 51... and so on.  the 1B IS the
escape char and 4F is an 'O', 50 is a 'P' and 51 is a 'Q'
