It seems to me that we have a problem where we've effectively eliminated any number of jobs for people where they need some moderate level of education. The sort of job where you might actually use stuff you learn in high school english, algebra, trig, science, etc. I mean, there's still plenty of essentially unskilled labor positions, and there always seesm to be a shortage of highly skilled people (except when they're being laid off in droves, of course.) But jobs like, say, clerical workers, have been all but eliminated in most places. So kids look at those college graduates (with real degrees) working in fast food, and wonder why they should bother.
