According to the readme.pls file in the MPLAB directory, the 18F452
requires PSPLUS firmware  version 3.00 or greater.

You should be just fine, and can even use the older (5.7) version of
MPLAB.  Refer to the readme.pls in your MPLAB directory for the lurid
details.
