Did you enter it on his "wish list"? Followup: It turns out that there is a way to print layers without generating Gerber files. I just "discovered" it tonight. It was there all along. In the PCB editor, have a look at the "Files > Plot Wizard" and "Files > Plot Preview" operations. Layer selection, scaling, reversal, and mirroring are all supported.
