Asking in this forum, I assume you want a compiler for the PIC
processors.

I and my students have successfully used the free version of CC5X for
three years, and I must say I'm really happy with it. It's a subset of
ANSI C, but gives really compact and fast code. Works best with version
5.x of MPLAB, but may be tweaked into v6.

Free version only compiles 1k word, but that suffices for most of my
students projects.

DCPP for DOS
gcc (Gnu) for pretty much everything.
