Although running a CDR using PIO instead of DMA is just begging to turn you burner into a coaster manufacturing unit unless it has some kind of buffer underrun protection. -----Original Message----- From: Mike Hord [SMTP:gaidinmd@HOTMAIL.COM] Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2003 12:53 AM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: Re: [ot]: cd-rom and cd-r doesn' t work 2. Check the IDE cable. It almost certainly needs to be an ATA/66/100 job. Swap it out. Rearrange the drives on the cable. I've never seen a CDR/RW or CROM that supported anything higher than DMA33, in which case a standard 40 conductor cable is adequate. As an aside, There seems to be a commonly held belief that putting a CDROM/Burner onto the same channel as your hard drive will slow the hard drives data transfer rate. This is only true if the CDROM in question only supports PIO. All modern DMA33 enabled devices will happily sit on the same channel as a DMA100/133 hard drive without affecting it's performance.
