12 volt DC can kill (and has done so).

In an experiment many years ago using volunteer prison inmates various
voltages were applied in various manners to the subjects. 12 volts applied
across the chest caused heart "stoppage" and the volunteer died despite best
efforts at resuscitation. (I do not have a reference for this and the
information is very old but I believe it is correct).

An exceptional circumstance, but it can happen.
