Hi Herbert: Before you open the hood you may want to do some homework on OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics). All cars sold in the U.S. after the mid 90s have a connector that's within reach of the driver (for your car I think it's under the dash and you can touch it with your right hand). The digital data on this connector includes the miles traveled and I think info from all the sensors in the engine compartment and most likely the injector pulse width. See . Some of the OBD-II data is mandated by the EPA, but there is also manufacturer proprietary data there, and there a lot of people that have hacked this and know what it is. This is the connector the dealer hooks uses to determine why the "Check Engine Light" is on.
