Hey Justin- A while back, I was thinking about doing the same kind of thing. From your research, you should have found out that PCMCIA is a bit of a misnomer for the cards. PCMCIA is the name of the organization that created the PC-Card and Cardbus standards. Since you are using an old "pcmcia" modem, chances are it is the 16-bit pc card standard and not the 32-bit card bus standard. That's a good thing as pc card is a much simpler standard. I would suggest looking into a book called "Inside PC Card" by Faisal Haque (ISBN: 0-7506-9747-4) as it covers both standards in great depth. The Pc Card standard is based heavily on the ISA bus (as the card bus standard is based heavily on the PCI bus). -R -----Original Message----- From: pic microcontroller discussion list [mailto:PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU]On Behalf Of Justin Grimm Sent: Monday, April 14, 2003 1:56 AM To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU Subject: [EE]: PCMCIA modem connections Hi All I would like to use an old pcmcia modem I have to connect to a pic. The pic will use the modem to dial a phone number. I have this already working with a normal serial modem but would prefer to use the pc card because of its size. Does anyone know what pin numbers to use on the card or how to communicate with the card at all? I have done a small search and come up with some standards that are gobblygook to me. Any ideas?
