Closest known Gamma Ray Burster to date http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2003/10apr_grb.htm?list762837 Seen on earth on March 29th. Seen elsewhere and elsewhen rather sooner. First observed GRB close enough to earth to allow it to be directly linked with a Super Nova. Which came first, (presumably by a rather fine margin) is unknown. As is typical for GRBs, it output more Gamma Ray energy than the whole of the rest of the universe for 30 seconds. ___________________ :-) & SciFi department: At only 2 billion light years away that means the aliens are closer to us than we may have thought. As the "ship" or ships which this event was used to propel would have been driven to within a minute fraction of light speed one might arrive here sometime soon - perhaps within the next ten thousand years or so. -- http://www.piclist.com hint: To leave the PICList mailto:piclist-unsubscribe-request@mitvma.mit.edu
