Any 2 digit number = 10A + B
So taking away the two digits gives

        10A + B - A - B = 9A

So the chart should have a common symbol at every 9 * N th position
Which it does.
The "mysticism" is maintained by changing the symbol set at every iteration
so users are less likely to realise what is happening.
