To reply to my own question... The VSS on my hand wired board was not up to par. I added a direct wire from the ICSP connector directly to the 2 VSS pins of the PIC, and all is now well. Sometimes a good nights sleep can be my most valuable tool. While I'm answering my own posts. 8^) I had asked a few days ago about MPSIM not reading the CONFIG files. The program in this project checks if the HSPLL Osc option is set so it can adjust the timer prescales accordingly. The code works fine in the chip. There is a note somewhere deep in the help files that states that MPSIM does not address above FFFF. The config files are well above this, so SIM always returns zeros.
