Bob is right.  I've actually met the people who assembled the battery packs
and sold them to Woods Hole and was shown photographs of the setup.  They
aren't the consumer labeled products, but they took a bunch of normal
batteries, spot welded them together in large strings and packaged them into
a single unit.  They get used once and then tossed.
