Usually gerber files are generated "as if viewed from the component side" or pretending the PCB material is clear and you can see straight through it. So your solder side would not come out a mirror image of what you see on the Eagle layout screen. Make sure that each of your board's gerber files contains a board outline (dimension layer) and that you add a mechanical plot (all dimension layers, holes) and that you also provide physical dimensions of your board on the meachnaical plot (download auto-dim from the eagle site, or a similar ULP that automatically dimensions a board) The board house will figure out whether they need to mirror the solder side. The dimension layer helps them keep it all lined up. You won't need the mirrored feature unless you are photoplotting this board yourself. I am not sure, but I thought the tool list was automatically included in RS274x..? -- Lawrence Lile Donovan Parks Sent by: pic microcontroller discussion list 03/13/2003 02:50 PM Please respond to pic microcontroller discussion list To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU cc: Subject: [EE]: CAM Processing in EAGLE (Mirror Solder Side?) Hello, I have finished laying out and routing my motor controller PCB (thanks for all those that helped) and am now proceeding to generate the required Gerber and drill files. However, I have quickly ran into a problem. EAGLE CAD has a predefined job for doing RS274x. This job indicates that the solder side should be mirrored. However, when I do this and then preview the resulting Gerber files in GC-Prevue the solder side is incorrect (i.e. it shouldn't have been mirrored). My problem is that I am uncertain if I am using EAGLE CAD incorrectly (and should not be mirroring the solder side) or am using GC-Prevue incorrectly (and somehow need to specify that this signal layer is on the bottom of the PCB). It seems it should all just be a matter of convention, but being new to this I am not sure what is most common. Thanks for any help. Regards, Donovan PS: How do you load a tool list file in GC-Prevue? I know how to add the drill file, but can find no way to automatically load the tool list. I am currently manually entering the tool list. -- http://www.piclist.com hint: PICList Posts must start with ONE topic: [PIC]:,[SX]:,[AVR]: ->uP ONLY!
