Might I also add that it is a matter of screen size. If a subject is too long it is "inconvenient" for me to extract the whole subject (I use the preview pane in Outlook exclusively, only time I "open" a message is if it has an attachment I want to save which the preview pane will automatically open), so if the body doesn't contain the needed information I will usually just skip the message. Since everybody's screen is a different size it is wise to use the subject line as a "title", all the meat should be in the body.
