For those interested, but not interested enough to click.. It's being built by a small group of enthusiasts, one of whom is John Carmack (id, Doom, Quake, etc). They use hydrogen peroxide as a fuel, and silver screens as catalysts at the nozzles. They have one large nozzle in the center of the craft, with four smaller outboard nozzles for stability. No nozzle is steerable, only pressure controlled. Everything is controlled by a linux onboard single board computer. The only fly in the ointment of late (probably resolved by now) is getting 90% hydrogen peroxide. -Adam Russell McMahon wrote: >Despite the appearance this is an honest to goodness rocket ship and those >are 4 rocket engines. > > http://media.armadilloaerospace.com/2003_03_08/vehicleBase.jpg > > http://media.armadilloaerospace.com/2003_03_08/frostedEngines.jpg > >It both lifts, hovers and stabilises itself on those engines. > >It's big brother (sister?), presently also under construction, weighs 800+ >pounds and is intended to carry 3 people. > >-- >http://www.piclist.com hint: The PICList is archived three different >ways.
