If you are looking for a stack where there isn't one you will be looking for a long time ... so stop looking and implement it as a 'flat' stackless data structure. I remember it was fun getting the index pointer (FSR) to address what *I* wanted and not what it wanted while jumping between EEPROM contents and normal file registers used as accumulators and timers.
