It's an OTP part you have to toss after the first upgrade, >grrr. Don't throw out that original OTP part: that is what you use to program your windowed 17c44 when another upgrade comes along. I keep mine stuck into a piece of anti-static foam glued inside the cover of the PS+. The only caveat is that really old versions of the PS+ software will run only with really old versions of MPLAB.
