I think there is a standard-ish micro-USB connector used on some digital =
cameras - probably cheap
but might be a problem getting in small quantities. The small size =
IEEE1394 firewire connectors may
also be worth a look. And of course there is mini-DIN, but  not much =
smaller than  RJ45.
